GLOWER – FILM INSTALLED AS A PART OF THE ACCOUNTABILITY STATION AT THE FUTURE OF JUSTICE EXHIBITION
In the Glower Film Installation, also known as the Glower-Prologue, shown within the Accountability station in the Future of Justice Exhibition, the physical location of the former Amsterdam Spinhuis emerges as the character of Donna Daantje Doina. Over the course of many centuries, she has been confronted with – and was used herself – to exert control, violence and (in)justice in many ways. As in the Rasphuis, a parallel universe arose in which detainees were expected to ‘improve’ before being allowed to step back into ‘real’ society, often only to return again soon after.
In the Glower Prologue, Donna Daantje Doina takes part in her own restorative justice circle where she must face the harm she has inflicted. The film follows her while she faces the ghosts of women she hurt in the past and tries to make amends with them. This process of accountability lets this character (and space) later become a justice healer.
Glower was filmed in Atelier Mellius.
